Honestly that tape trick is pretty common. People just don't realize how easily a loose outlet can start a fire.

Had a guy using a penny behind a fuse because he kept blowing them. That's a direct short waiting to happen. The metal can weld itself right to the socket.

A penny in a fuse socket is asking for trouble. That thing gets hot and bonds right to the metal. People forget cheap fixes can burn a house down, you know?
