Shoutout to the client who made me rethink my whole approach to extractions

About a year ago, a regular named Sarah came in for her monthly facial and her skin was just... so much more reactive than usual. I used to go in with my standard pressure and time, but that day I cut my extraction time in half and focused on calming serums instead. It made me realize my old routine was too aggressive for some skin types. How do you guys adjust your technique when a client's skin is having a really sensitive day?

Cutting extraction time is a start, but sometimes you need to skip them entirely on reactive skin.

Skipping extractions can make things worse for some reactive skin. Leaving clogged pores in place just gives bacteria more time to cause a bigger problem. A very gentle, quick extraction by a pro who knows reactive skin can actually prevent a longer, more painful flare-up later. The key is the method, not avoiding the step completely.

My third client today had skin so reactive I probably could have set off a sneeze just by looking at her wrong. I tried a trick where I used a warm compress for like five minutes before even touching anything, and it made the pores open up way easier without me having to apply hardly any pressure. I still managed to leave a red mark on my own forehead from absent-mindedly scratching an itch, but hey, at least her skin looked better than mine.
