Heard a landscaper in Denver say they never use more than three materials on a facade

I was getting an estimate for my front yard last week, and the guy mentioned his rule about limiting the stone, siding, and trim to just three types total. He said it keeps the look clean and stops things from getting too busy. Has anyone else tried sticking to a specific number like that, or does it feel too restrictive for your projects?

That's actually a solid rule for way more than just houses. You see the same thing with outfits or even a good burger, too many toppings and it's just a mess. It's about editing yourself down to what actually works instead of throwing everything at the wall. Makes sense that keeping a facade simple with just a few materials would look way more put together.

Yeah, totally, and @milabutler is right about it applying to other stuff too. I did that with my kitchen reno, stuck to three finishes, and it just looks way more intentional.

Funny how it works for music too. A song with too many layers just turns into noise, but a few good parts hit way harder.
