Hot take: Misjudged the hoof angle on a nervous pony
Was working on a skittish pony and rushed the trim, ended up with a too-steep angle. Now the pony is favoring that foot and the owner is worried. How do you correct this without stressing the animal more? I feel like I messed up big time.

Round the toe to reduce leverage and stress.

Rounding the toe helps a bit, but it's more about where the pressure ends. A truly rounded toe box just moves the stress point back a little. You need vertical height over the toes to stop them from hitting the end on a downhill. A lot of hiking boots get this wrong by making a low, rounded shape that still cramps your foot.

That old boot fitter in Boulder said exactly what @walker.nora just posted about toe height.
