Rant: I just read that some farriers think a hot shoe is always better for traction

Found a study from a university in Kentucky that showed on dry, hard ground, a cold shoe can actually have equal or better grip. It really depends on the surface and the horse's job. Anyone have experience testing this out on different terrains?

My cousin's mule wore cold shoes on a rocky trail and did fine for months.

Huh, interesting. Did that study mention what kind of cold shoe they used?
