Update: I started using a 4-inch grinder to rough out hoof wall flares on a tough mustang last month.

It was way faster than my nippers and didn't jar my elbow, but I know some folks think it's too aggressive. What's your go-to method for those really dense, overgrown walls?

Got a good laugh at myself last time I tried that, ended up with a hoof that looked like a beaver went to town on it. Seriously though, if it works for you and the horse is fine with it, who cares. My old knees prefer the grinder now too, but I still keep the nippers handy for the final touch. It's all about reading the hoof and not getting carried away.

Honestly same, my first few tries looked like a toddler took a bite out of the hoof wall. Tbh the grinder is a lifesaver for getting it close before the nippers.
