Bought a $60 ceramic crock for my pepper mash and it chipped on day 3

Switched to a plain $12 glass pickle jar from the grocery store and haven't had a single issue since, anyone else regret spending big on fancy fermentation vessels?

Did that nice crock come with those special weights or lids too, or was it just the basic jar? Kinda curious if the price tag got you extra stuff that the pickle jar doesn't need.

Have you ever noticed how everything we buy these days tries to push us into upgrading before we even know what we need? @garcia.miles, I think it's like when you buy a car and they try to sell you the heated seats package, but you live in Florida. The basic jar usually does the job just fine, but the fancy crock probably came with those little glass weights and maybe a lid that seals tighter. It's funny how we end up paying extra for things we didn't even know we wanted, just because the store makes them look necessary.
