I used to track every single penny in a notebook, now I just check one app on Sundays

For years, I wrote down every coffee and grocery run in a physical ledger, which took like an hour a week. After moving to Chicago last year, I got overwhelmed and switched to just using Mint on my phone. I review it once a week, and my spending actually dropped by about 15% because seeing the total is scarier. Anyone else find that simpler tracking works better than being super detailed?

Totally get what you mean about seeing the total being scarier. I did the notebook thing for a while too and it just made me focus on tiny stuff that didn't matter. Switching to a weekly check on an app gave me the big picture shock I needed. It stops you from kidding yourself about where the money goes. That 15% drop makes perfect sense.

Which app did you end up using? I tried a few and settled on just checking my bank's built-in spending tracker every Sunday. Seeing the weekly total in red or green is a way faster gut check than adding up receipts ever was.
