My 'perfect' font pair for a bakery logo was a total joke to my brother
I spent a whole afternoon picking what I thought was a great match: a fancy script for 'Sweet Treats' and a bold slab serif for the tagline. I showed my brother, who just runs a food truck, and he stared at it for a second before asking if the second font was from a monster truck poster. He said it looked like the bakery sold cupcakes and also crushed cars. I had to admit, the vibe was way off. Anyone else ever have a pairing that seemed right in your head but was a total mess to someone else?

Totally get that designer's blind spot thing. You can match all the technical stuff perfectly but still miss the story the fonts tell together. My buddy once said my sleek sans serif paired with a handwritten font looked like a robot trying to write a love letter, lol.

Yeah, @elliot_ross nailed it. My brother would probably say my last font pairing looked like a lawyer selling stuffed animals.

Read a blog post once that called this "designer's blind spot." You get so focused on the technical match, like weight or x-height, you forget the vibe each font carries on its own. Your slab serif might have the perfect thick lines, but if it screams "heavy machinery" to most people, it'll fight the script font. I've done the same thing pairing a clean geometric sans with what I thought was a playful serif, only to have a friend say it looked like a tech company trying too hard to be fun.
