Working on a menu for a new cafe in Austin and my serif choice is clashing.

I keep seeing people pair a script font with a slab serif for a rustic feel, but it often just looks messy and dated. Has anyone nailed a clean, modern food menu pairing that actually works?

Try a clean sans serif with your script instead.

My buddy did that combo for his food truck logo last year. He used a script font for "Big Al's" paired with a simple sans serif for "Smoked BBQ" underneath. Morgan.cameron is right, it balanced out the fancy writing and made the whole thing readable from across a parking lot. The health department guy even commented on how clear the permit info was. Sometimes the simple fix is the best one.
