I was cleaning the riser tubes with a wire brush for years until a new guy from the Toledo plant asked why I didn't just use compressed air first.
It took me a solid hour less to do the whole line yesterday, and now I'm wondering what other 'that's just how we do it' habits I should be questioning.

Wait, your friend ever have that thing happen where they spent like two years doing something the hard way, then one random Tuesday someone goes "hey why don't you just-" and you feel like an absolute moron? My buddy Mike from the old shop, he was hand-packing bearings for like eighteen months before a temp worker showed him they had a hydraulic press sitting in the corner the whole time that did it in ten seconds each lol. He got so annoyed that nobody ever told him that he almost quit on the spot. It's hilarious how we'll just accept some painful routine as gospel until someone from outside comes in and breaks the spell. Makes you wonder what other stuff we're doing that's basically a slow torture for no reason.

Ever wonder how many hours of your life you've wasted because nobody asked a simple question? That Toledo guy just saved you a whole work week every year. Makes you look at every single boring task you do and wonder if there's a dumb, easy way out. Bet there's at least three more things on your line you could fix with a five minute talk.
