Why does nobody talk about getting paid after a project is done?

I finished a website for a client in Austin two months ago and they still owe me $2,800. I sent the invoice the day we launched, and now they're just not answering my emails. Has anyone else had a client ghost them after the work was delivered?

But maybe they just have cash flow problems like @wadeyoung's clients.

Man, the "ghost them after the work was delivered" part hits home. I've had that happen a couple times and it's the worst feeling, like you did all that work for a pat on the back. I mean, maybe it's just me but I started asking for half up front after the second time I got burned. Still doesn't stop the last payment from vanishing sometimes though.

Ever notice how this isn't just a freelancer thing? It's like a weird new rule of life. People just stop replying when they get what they need. You book a contractor, they finish the job, and you have to chase them for the final invoice. Same energy as @wadeyoung's clients ghosting. It's a basic respect thing that's totally gone now.
