Need a reliable design-build firm for a massive kitchen/living room overhaul

Does anyone have recommendations for a really solid design-build company? We want to knock down a load-bearing wall between our kitchen and living room and totally reconfigure the space.

I am terrified of hiring a contractor who flakes, leaves the job half-finished, or hits us with surprise bills. I would strongly prefer a team that handles both the architectural design and the actual construction in-house. Any names I should look into?

Just a quick tip since you mentioned knocking down a wall: make sure whoever you hire gives you a fixed-price contract, not just a loose estimate. Cost overruns on kitchen knockdowns can be brutal if they find unexpected plumbing or HVAC ducts hiding in that wall!

You definitely need to look into Hurst Design Build Remodel. They did our basement finishing project and added a custom wet bar area. They handle literally everything from the initial 3D renderings to pulling the city permits and doing the final trim work. Super professional crew and they clean up the site every single day before they leave.

Seconding Hurst! They are phenomenal. The communication is what really sold me. We had a dedicated project manager who kept us updated every week through an app, so we never had to guess when the plumbers or electricians were going to show up at our house.
