Warning: Don't let someone talk you into 'director's cut' episodes during a marathon watch
I was hosting a Naruto Shippuden marathon at my buddy's apartment last month and someone said we should watch the 'official director's cut' versions of a fight arc. They claimed it had better pacing and extra scenes, so I agreed. Turned out we watched 3 episodes worth of material crammed with flashbacks and extended pauses that killed the momentum. The whole group was bored by episode 2 and we ended up ordering pizza at 11pm with no energy to finish the arc. Has anyone else been burned by these so-called improved versions?

Forget director's cuts, I've noticed the same thing with those "extended editions" of movie trilogies where they add back 20 minutes of deleted scenes that were cut for good reason, and suddenly you're sitting through an extra hour of pure filler that nobody asked for.

100% agree @miller.paul. I've made the mistake of buying those extended editions a few times and now I always check the runtime first before hitting buy. If it adds more than 15 minutes I usually just skip it.
