My uncle told me to stop icing sprains. I thought he was crazy.
He said ice slows down healing and to just move it gently. I ignored him for years. Twisted my ankle bad in 2021, iced it for two weeks, took forever to heal. Last year I tried his way after a fall. No ice, just light movement. Was back on my feet in 4 days. Has anyone else dumped the ice advice?

Tried the same thing after reading @theabennett's post, honestly it changed how I deal with ankle rolls now. I used to ice everything and it just made the swelling stick around longer for me. Moving it gently and keeping it warm felt weird at first but my recovery time got way faster.

Oh wow, that's wild... I always thought ice was the only way to go for sprains. But honestly, my grandma used to say the same thing about heat vs cold for muscle pulls. She swore by warm compresses and a little walking around, even when her knee was acting up. I gave it a shot last winter after a bad twist on some ice, and it felt way better than the whole ice regimen I grew up with. Makes you wonder how much of this "common knowledge" is just stuff we all repeat without thinking...
