Update: I tried to find a simple answer about copyright for a blog post
I needed to know if I could quote a short line from a book in a blog post. I figured it would be a quick search, maybe 10 minutes. I ended up reading through government websites, forum threads, and confusing legal blogs for almost three hours. The problem was every source gave a slightly different take on 'fair use'. Has anyone found a clear, simple guide for this kind of thing?

Exactly, it's all about context and why you're using it. Have you checked if the publisher has any official guidelines for quotes?

Yeah, that fair use rabbit hole is the worst. The thing is, there's no clear rule because it's decided case by case in court. I always heard the "short line" thing too, but it's more about the purpose and how much you take. Using a line for a book review is way safer than just dropping it in a random post.
