My 7 year old nephew asked me why bread has holes in it.
He was helping me shape some rolls last weekend. I gave him the usual answer about yeast making gas. He just stared at the dough and said, 'So it's bread farts?' Had to stop everything, I was laughing so hard. Never thought of it that way for my whole career. What's the funniest baking explanation you've ever had to give?

You gotta love kids, they cut right through everything. I've had a seven year old ask if the bubbles in soda were "angry air" before, so I get it. Honestly, the key is to just roll with it. Agree that it's bread farts, then show them how the dough gets all puffy and soft because of it. They'll remember the fart joke way longer than any science lesson, and you can sneak in the real info later when they're not laughing so hard they can't breathe.

Kids are basically tiny comedians who don't know they're funny yet, it's like they see the world through this cracked lens where everything can be a joke or a weird observation. Tbh it reminds me of how people describe driving in traffic like it's some kind of battle when really we're all just sitting in hot metal boxes waiting to move. The bread thing is the same deal, take their silly idea and play along, because half the fun of being a kid is finding out that farts make bread fluffy or that angry air makes soda fizz.

Honestly, is that even a funny explanation? Kids say weird stuff about everything. It's just yeast doing its thing, not some big joke. The whole post feels like making a big deal out of a normal kid comment. It's not that deep.
