Rant: My clipper kept snagging on thick neck hair. Every time.
Had this regular with hair like steel wool on his neckline. Tried everything. Different guards, oil, even a new blade. Nothing worked. Saw a video from a barber in Miami. He said to use a tiny bit of pre-shave oil on the skin first. Tried it with my Andis Masters. Went through like butter. No more tugging. Anyone else have a trick for super coarse hair?

Try stretching the skin super tight with your free hand. That extra tension makes the hair stand up straighter for the clipper to grab. It was a game changer for me on those really wiry beards.

Honestly, pulling the skin tight is key, but you gotta watch the angle of the clipper too. I used to stretch my neck and still get nicks because I was holding the clipper flat against the skin. Tilt it just a little bit so the blade's corner leads, and it glides over curves way better. Makes a huge difference on the jawline and under the chin where the bone sticks out.

Totally agree about pulling the skin tight. That trick saved my neck from looking patchy. My beard grows in all crazy directions, so just going with the grain wasn't enough. Found out the hard way after a few bad trims. Now I stretch, go slow, and use a shorter guard on the neckline. Makes everything way more even.
