Had to decide between saving a struggling orchid or trying my luck with a cheap new one from the grocery store

I picked the struggling one because it felt wrong to give up on it, spent about 6 weeks nursing it with a chopstick and some cinnamon powder, and now it's got two new roots but yellow leaves everywhere - anyone else ever regret their rehabilitation choice halfway through?

Have you tried cutting off those yellow leaves yet? In my experience, once they start going yellow they usually just keep draining energy from the rest of the plant. I've been down this road before with a rescue orchid and what worked for me was trimming the yellow ones back to the stem, then just focusing on getting those new roots to take hold. The cinnamon trick is solid for keeping rot away, so your gamble might still pay off if you give it a few more weeks. Your mileage may vary of course, but I've seen orchids bounce back from worse.

Oh yeah, because nothing says "thriving plant" like a pair of scissors and some desperate hope, right? I guess we're all just one snip away from botanical success or total disaster, no middle ground. But honestly, if I had to choose between watching a yellow leaf slowly suck the life out of my orchid or taking a gamble with cinnamon and scissors, I'd pick the snip every time. At least then I can blame a bad haircut instead of my own neglect when it still dies.

Cutting off the leaves with scissors? @phoenixp30 are you a plant surgeon or something?
