My hostel cost in Prague doubled in just two years
I stayed at the same place near Old Town Square in 2022 for 18 euros a night. Went back last month and the same bunk in the same dorm was 36 euros. The owner said it's because of new tourist taxes and 'dynamic pricing' from booking sites. It's not just a small jump anymore. Has anyone found a good way to beat these new high prices in popular cities?

Wait, it doubled? That's insane. I knew prices were going up but that's a whole different level. "Dynamic pricing" just sounds like a fancy excuse to charge whatever they want now. Makes those day trips from smaller towns look like the only smart move left.

That "not just a small jump anymore" line really hits home. I saw the same thing in Lisbon last year, it feels like a totally different budget game now. Honestly, I've just started looking at smaller cities nearby and taking a train in for day trips. The main hubs are getting impossible unless you book like six months out.

Heard a podcast where a guy said he skipped Barcelona entirely last summer. Stayed in Girona and just took the train in for a day. Costs were half as much. Totally get what you mean, @joel280. Lisbon is the same story. Even the hostels in the center are charging hotel prices now. Feels like you need to plan a side trip just to afford the side trip.
