I tried to save $40 a month by switching to a cash envelope system for groceries in March.

I ended up spending $60 more because I kept forgetting the envelopes at home and had to use my card for overpriced convenience store runs, so has anyone found a good way to make a cash system actually stick?

My buddy keeps his envelope clipped to his sun visor. That way it's always in the car.

An envelope just flapping in the breeze up there?

Yeah, my friend had the same problem. She tried the envelope thing but kept leaving it on the kitchen counter. She ended up doing what @the_cameron said, clipping it to the visor, but she took it further. She put a bright orange sticker on her steering wheel that just said "ENVELOPE?" so she'd see it before she even got out of the car. It looked silly but she stopped forgetting it. She also started keeping a five dollar bill in her glove box for real emergencies, so she wouldn't blow the whole budget if she did forget.
