I spent $400 on a set of Japanese pull saws last year and they changed how I work

Know exactly what you mean. My cheap hardware store saw used to bind and wander all the time. Switched to a decent Japanese pull saw for cutting dovetails and it just glides. The thin blade makes a crazy clean line. It feels less like fighting the wood and more like just guiding the cut. Total game changer for small joinery.

So you're telling me @max631, the secret to good dovetails was just not using a saw made of angry tin? I fought with a cheap saw for years thinking I just sucked. That pull saw sounds like cheating, but the good kind.

Yeah that "less like fighting the wood" feeling is real. It's weird how a good tool makes you want to practice more, like you're not just fixing mistakes the whole time.
