Rant: That $300 knife sharpener I thought was a good deal
I bought this electric sharpener from a supply store in Chicago about 6 months ago. Figured it would save me time and keep my knives in good shape without having to send them out. But it ended up ruining the edge on my chef's knife after just two uses. There was like a weird wobble in the motor or something, and it took off way too much metal. I looked at the blade and there were uneven scratches and a burr I couldn't fix. Total waste of $300 and now I still have to pay a pro 20 bucks to fix the damage. Anyone else had a gadget that made their tools worse instead of better?

Happens way too often, those electric ones are just overpriced garbage.

Hold on, $300 for an electric sharpener is wild. Honestly, you could have gotten a really good manual stone setup for half that and gotten way better results. Those cheaper electric ones with the wobble are notorious for eating blades, especially if the motor isn't perfectly aligned. Your chef's knife is probably fine after a pro fixes it, but ngl, I'd take that thing back to the store and raise hell if it's still under warranty. A $20 repair bill stings but it's better than that machine ruining your whole set.

@nora735 what brand was that sharpener anyway? I ask because some of those $300 ones actually have decent motors but the cheaper knockoffs are the real problem. Just curious if this was a name brand or something off Amazon.
