I finally tried making coffee with a $15 moka pot from the thrift store after years of just using a drip machine.
My old drip machine broke last month, so I grabbed this little Italian pot, and now I'm obsessed with the strong, almost syrupy brew it makes, even though the first time I used it, I forgot the gasket and got a kitchen counter full of hot grounds... anyone else have a thrift store find that totally changed their morning routine?

Oh man, the hot grounds mess sounds rough. That's a classic first-time moka pot move though, isn't it? Once you get it right, there's no going back to weak coffee.

Nah, weak coffee has its place. Sometimes you just want a hot drink that doesn't taste like a punch in the face. All that fuss with a moka pot for a tiny cup? Not worth the cleanup. Give me a simple drip machine any day.

Alice's got a point about drip machines being simple, but moka pot cleanup isn't that bad if you rinse it right away. That strong coffee isn't for everyone though, my girlfriend likes it light and airy like a morning hug. A good drip setup can make a smooth cup that's more forgiving than a moka pot's bitter edge if you mess up the grind.
