Tried a weird trick with pattern overlays on a map project and it actually worked
I was making a delivery route map for a friend's small business and he's red-green colorblind. The default red and green zones for traffic were useless to him. I remembered seeing something about patterns, so I threw diagonal stripes on the red areas and dots on the green ones in the software I was using. He looked at it and immediately said, 'Oh, the striped parts are slow.' Has anyone else tried mixing patterns like this for charts or maps? What other combos work?

Used crosshatching and dots for a pie chart once, worked surprisingly well.

Reminds me of how we all end up making our own systems when the default ones fail. My kid's school sends home permission slips on bright orange paper because the white ones kept getting lost in backpacks. It's the same kind of fix, just finding what actually works.
