Honestly, naming my fantasy city's districts took me 3 hours yesterday
I got stuck trying to make them sound distinct but not silly, and my outline just sat there blank. Anyone else ever waste a whole evening on something that seems simple?

Naming stuff is way harder than it looks. I read a blog post once where a writer said they spent a week just on street names for a novel. What was the last name you almost went with?

Yeah, a week on street names sounds about right. I got stuck for two days trying to name a coffee shop in a story, @samj27. Ended up calling it "The Daily Grind" like every other place. The last character name I almost used was "Corbin" for this detective guy. It just sounded too cool, like he'd know kung fu or something. My guy was just a sad dude who ate cold pizza for breakfast. Went with "Gary" instead. Felt more right for a guy whose biggest mystery was where his other sock went.

Oh, street names are the easy part... I think the writer meant they spent a week on character names. That's the real nightmare.
