My weekend spreadsheeting went sideways and I actually fixed it

I spent 12 hours building a budget tracker in Excel last Saturday. Got to row 87 and the whole thing froze up, lost two hours of work because I hadn't saved. Instead of rage quitting, I walked away for 20 minutes, came back, and rebuilt just the broken part in 45 minutes using simpler formulas. Has anyone else had a system crash kill your planning session and found a weird workaround?

Oh jeez, I've been there with Excel. My fix is to set auto-save to every 5 minutes now, saved my sanity more than once.

Oh man, actually Excel's auto-save is usually set to 10 minutes by default. You gotta dig into File > Options > Save to switch it down to 5. It's a tiny change but makes a huge difference when you're deep in a spreadsheet.

The bit about walking away for 20 minutes is the part I relate to most. I've noticed that stepping back from a problem often lets your brain reset and see simpler solutions you were too frustrated to notice before. It's funny how that same pattern applies to things like cooking or even arguments - sometimes a short break is all you need to fix a mess.
