Shoutout to the old-timer I met at a supply house in Tacoma who showed me a trick with a zip tie and a flashlight

I was struggling to see inside a crowded junction box in a dark attic, and he showed me how to zip-tie a small flashlight to the side of your head so the beam follows your eyes... has anyone else got a good lighting hack for tight spaces?

I always thought headlamps were the only real option. That zip tie trick is honestly genius, I'm stealing that for sure.

Honestly that zip tie thing sounds like a headache waiting to happen. Gotta agree with the_cameron that a headlamp is the real move, they're like ten bucks. Trying to rig up some janky headband with a zip tie seems like more effort than it's worth, especially when you're already up in a hot attic. Just buy the right tool for the job.

Lee's got a point about the attic heat making you want to just get the job done. Sometimes a quick fix is fine, but fumbling with a zip tie when you're sweating and covered in insulation sounds miserable. A headlamp just works right away, no messing around. It's one of those cheap things that saves you more frustration than it costs.
