Had to pick between a new hoist rope or a full traction sheave resurfacing on a 15-year-old Otis unit
The budget only allowed for one, and I went with the rope replacement thinking it was the bigger safety issue. Turns out the worn sheave grooves were causing way more vibration and wear on the new ropes than we thought. Now we're looking at another call-back in maybe 6 months to do the sheave job anyway. Anyone had a similar choice go sideways on an older system?

Been there, that's a tough call to make.

My friend in Chicago had to make that choice last year. She said the hardest part was not knowing if she made the right call even months later. Honestly, sometimes there just isn't a clear good option.
