Unpopular opinion: I used to think those cheap ceramic pouring cups were fine for everything.
Had a big pour for a municipal grate last Thursday, about 800 pounds of gray iron. Used my usual bargain bin cup from the supply truck. Thing cracked right down the side halfway through the pour, lost maybe 200 pounds of metal onto the floor. Total mess, ruined the mold. My foreman just shook his head and said 'you get what you pay for, kid.' Ordered a proper silicon carbide cup that night. Anyone have a brand they trust for heavy duty work that won't let go?
