I had to pick between a fancy grinder and a new kettle for my morning brew

My old kettle finally gave out after about 2 years, and my grinder is a basic blade model. I had a budget of $150 to spend on an upgrade. I went with the Fellow Stagg EKG kettle because I realized my pour-over technique was the weak link, not the grind size. The temperature control has made a huge difference in flavor clarity. Has anyone else faced a similar gear choice and regretted or loved their pick?

My old roommate used a soup ladle for his pour over because he spent his whole budget on a fancy scale. The coffee tasted like wet paper and regret. He'd probably agree with grant.kevin that the tool in your hand matters more than the one on your counter. I still have a photo of that ladle next to his two hundred dollar grinder. The look on his face when he finally tried a real kettle was pure shock.

Used to think the grinder was everything. Your post makes a strong case for fixing the pour first.

Yeah @grant.kevin, I read something similar about how a bad pour can ruin even the best grind.
