Why does nobody talk about the weirdest question you've ever been asked?

I was at a local meetup in Austin last month and someone asked me how to properly dispose of a broken lava lamp, which honestly stumped me. I ended up looking it up and found out you have to treat the liquid inside as hazardous waste. Has anyone else gotten a totally random question that sent you down a research rabbit hole?

I gave up on 'The Wire' after two episodes, then a friend told me to skip to season 4

I tried to start 'The Wire' last year but found the first couple episodes slow and confusing. A buddy said to just jump ahead to season 4, which focuses on the school system. I did, and I was hooked immediately, then went back and watched the earlier seasons with way more interest. Has anyone else used a non-chronological start to get into a show that everyone says is great?

Hot take: I finally tried a 100% custom brush pack and it was a total mess

I always thought the default brushes in Procreate were fine, but after watching a tutorial from a concept artist in Austin, I bought a set for $15. My first piece looked muddy and weird because I had no idea how to control the pressure settings. Anyone have a good starter pack that isn't overwhelming?

My brother-in-law said to never buy pre-ground coffee from the grocery store

He told me this about a year ago, and I thought he was just being snobby. I kept buying the big can of ground coffee for my drip machine. Then, for my birthday, he got me a cheap blade grinder and a bag of whole beans from a local roaster in Portland. The difference was insane. The coffee tasted so much brighter and less bitter. I feel like I wasted a whole year on stale coffee. Has anyone else made the switch and been totally surprised?

My flight got canceled in Lisbon and I had to find a place to sleep for $20

Everything was booked solid because of a festival. I ended up sleeping on a bench in the airport terminal for two nights. Has anyone else found a safe spot to crash when hostels are full?

Just compared two color palette tools for checking contrast

I was working on a website for a local library and needed to pick accessible text colors. I tried a free online tool first, but it only gave me a pass/fail for WCAG AA. Then I used a different tool that showed the exact contrast ratio numbers and let me adjust colors in real time. The second tool helped me see that a 4.8:1 ratio was much clearer than just passing at 4.5:1 for some users. I ended up changing three colors based on those specific numbers. Has anyone found a tool that's really good for testing color blindness simulations too?

Dropped $400 on a new headset with noise canceling and it's a total waste

I thought it would help me hear the signal person better on a loud site, but the noise canceling just makes everything sound flat and muffled. I can't pick out the voice from the background hum anymore. Anyone have a good headset that actually works for this?

A guy in Denver said my brush was too small for the job and he was right

I was cleaning a 12x12 clay flue last month and thought my standard brush was fine. He pointed out I was leaving a quarter inch of creosote on the sides because the bristles weren't making full contact. I switched to a bigger, stiffer brush and it cut my time down by half. Anyone else run into this with older, bigger chimneys?

Question about the new 2023 NEC rule on AFCI protection for kitchen fridge circuits

I had to choose between installing a dual-function AFCI/GFCI breaker or trying to use a regular AFCI with a GFCI outlet for a fridge circuit in a Reno job last month. Went with the dual-function Siemens QF220A because I figured one device was less hassle than two. It went fine, but now I'm hearing some guys say the dual-functions can nuisance trip more on fridges. Has anyone else run into that with the Siemens ones specifically?

My aunt told me to plan my week around energy, not time, and it sounded silly

She said to block out mornings for hard tasks after I tracked my focus for a week and saw I was useless after 2 PM. Now I get my real work done before lunch and save emails for later, but my calendar looks like a toddler's art project. Does anyone else have a weird tip that actually worked?
