Had a designer friend rip apart my living room layout last weekend

My buddy Sarah came over to my apartment in Austin and said my couch was basically blocking the whole flow of the room. She showed me how moving it 3 feet to the left and angling the chairs opened up way more space than I thought possible. Has anyone else had a friend point out something so obvious you felt like an idiot for not seeing it yourself?

moving it 3 feet to the left and angling the chairs" is exactly what she had me do with my coffee table... I was so focused on centering everything against the wall that I didn't see how cutting off the walking path made the whole room feel cramped. Now I've got this weird little nook behind the couch that I turned into a reading spot with a floor lamp and a plant... it's crazy how one small shift like that completely changes how you use the space. I went from hating my living room to actually hanging out in there more.

So it's a personality transplant AND a couch now?

Sarah moved my coffee table once. Two inches to the left. I still don't get why people act like a furniture rearrangement changes your whole life. It's a couch, not a personality transplant. I'm glad you like your new reading nook but honestly, a lot of this stuff is just about looking busy. You could have just sat on the floor.
