Warning: my foreman insisted we use a 6-inch knife for the final coat on a big commercial job in Denver, but after three rooms I switched back to my 12-inch and the finish was way smoother.

Vent: This week was just one weird old chimney after another

Honestly... that just sounds like normal wear and tear to me. Chimneys are old and things shift and crack in weird ways. A spiral pattern isn't that wild when you think about how heat and stress work on clay tiles. Four hours is a long time, but some old builds are just a pain like that. I really doubt anyone went up there to drill them on purpose.

Finally figured out my swing was off because of the wind gauge

Wind pockets are the worst, they'll mess you up every time. Good call on checking your rig's readout too, not just the building sensor. Frank sounds like a guy who's learned that lesson the hard way.
