Man, hate that you had to go through that with the homeowner watching the whole time. But I gotta say, if the stakes pulled loose, that usually means the soil gave out, not the stakes themselves. Desert dirt out here gets rock hard on top and then turns to powder a few inches down, so pounding them deeper does not always fix it. Next time try wider stake plates or screw anchors that grab more soil, and water the ground a bit before you drive them. That west side sun baking the forms all morning probably did not help either.
